Kinda Like Marla Olmstead, But With Severed Heads
The Day of the Dead show opened on Friday at the Women's Art Center. It was a whimsical mix of organic installation and art books by Amelia Davis, offbeat flatworks by Wren Ross, and my typographic / creature paintings.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by!
After the W.A.C., we hit the Broadway shows. Nick and Erin Potter along with Lily Griggs, and her SLUG momma were at Nobrow. Lily had Polaroids and drawings up, along with one of what I'm assuming is one of her altered toys... Love it!

Leia Bell's Signed and Numbered had a pretty comprehensive show of Jethro Gillespie's work. I love this place; I need to find some time to just spend a couple hours in there flipping through all the prints.

Other places of note this stroll were the Salt Lake Art Center with Liberties Under Fire and the group show at Paradise Palm.

People Getting Pregnant
I went to see Greg Clement's show at the Mercantile with the other Greg (Bernini.) Intriguing work with acrylic and gauze and other bizarre remnants.

It's Time for a Break
Lately, I've been swamped with multiple projects; the responsibility has been daunting but it has also been rewarding (and I'd much rather rather be busy than bored.) That being said, I am still looking forward to the school break next week. Not that I will have fewer projects to work on during the break, but class is a real time taker even though I enjoy it. It will be nice to have the chance to wrap up some non-university assignments.
My show at the Women's Art Center opens later this month, and I'm just about done with framing my pieces. I was debating on whether to include this one:

... but decided against it. The style is so different - it looks as it it were painted by someone else. But I do love it so!
Another activity for next week... I was asked to let a few Salt Lake Community College art majors "job-shadow" me. I guess what's supposed to happen is they come to my office for one day and watch me work while I explain the daily tasks of a designer. I hope it goes well and I don't wreck anyone's ideal of the graphic artist occupation...
On a side note, a few illustrations of mine are in this season's issue of make/shift. If you haven't heard of make/shift, it's a feminist magazine out of Venice, California and it's run by a group of women writers and artists. It's much different than most magazines of its genre, and is professionally produced.
P.S. In case you didn't know, I have an albino lop-eared rabbit. Her name is Chewy. During the last few days she's been ultra-playful (more than usual) and has made a new habit of burrowing in my laundry basket. When I pull her out and plop her on the floor, her ears rise up and she makes a surprised face:
